About Alonni Whitaker

Alonni Whitaker started as a cheerleader. She cheered for World Cup All-Stars and Top Gun All-Stars before receiving a scholarship for Acrobatics and Tumbling from a DII university. After spending 6 years as a team and tumbling coach, Alonni transitioned into the mental health field. Now, Alonni is now a full time therapist working to incorporate mental health and athletics.

My Story

Alonni Whitaker started her cheerleading career as a recreational pop warner cheerleader. After a few seasons, she fell in love with tumbling and decided to transition into all-star cheerleading. She started on a half year team at Comet All-Stars before elevating her skills at World Cup All-Stars for 4 seasons.

At age 16, Alonni decided to graduate from high school and attend college at Nova Southeastern University while cheering for Top Gun All-Stars. Unfortunately, she suffered from an ACL injury which ended her cheerleading career. After undergoing surgery, Alonni was recruited for acrobatics and tumbling at Alderson Broaddus University where she graduated summa cum laude. During her acrobatics and tumbling career, she received nominations for numerous event finals in the 7-element acro event, pyramids events, and more!

After graduating from Alderson Broaddus University with a B.A. in Psychology, Alonni attended Rutgers University’s Masters of Social Work program. During this time, she completed internships with a mental health consultant and doing COVID research at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. After receiving her MSW, Alonni moved to Miami for 2 years working as a Mental Health Coordinator at a local high school.

Throughout her journey, Alonni volunteered with numerous organizations including World Cup All-Stars as a special needs cheerleading helper, Samaritan’s Feet as an outreach assistant, We See Abilities as a director’s assistant, and her local Pop Warner program as a cheerleading coach.

In addition to volunteering, Alonni has published 2 books, 5 seasons of the Power in Humanity podcast, created tumbling programs for her local pop warner cheerleaders, and became ISSA certified in personal training, nutrition, and strength & conditioning.

Now, Alonni works as a full time psychotherapist and is currently enrolled in New York University’s Silver School of Social Work’s Sports Social Work certificate program. She hopes to integrate mental health and athletics to promote a safe space for athletes to develop their overall wellbeing.
